Steel Dumping There are recent difficulties relating to foreign "dumping" of steel and other materials into American markets. I have long been an ardent supporter of American industry and believe strongly that our nation should take steps to ensure that the tenets of fair trade are applied equally to American and foreign companies. Additionally, the steel and energy industries represent important components to our national security. Their direct and obvious bearing on American defense efforts weigh strongly in favor of assisting their recovery. Throughout my tenure in Congress, I have worked to promote the continued vitality of America's industries by supporting trade policies and agreements that protect our jobs and industries from unfair foreign trade practices. In the past, many countries have engaged in unfair trade practices, such as dumping, when faced with economic hardship at home. We must actively pursue measures to ensure an equal and fair trade relationship with all trading partners, and we should continually be on guard against dumping and other types of unfair trade practices. Rest assured, I will continue working to protect our nation's valuable steel industry.
