Veterans' Health Care

President Bush released his proposal for the FY 2007 Budget on February 6, 2006. This proposal included two benefit changes of particular interest to Alabamas veterans. The first is an increase in enrollment fees for Priority 7 and 8 veterans to $250 and the second is an increase in the prescription drug co-payment from $7 to $15.

It is important to remember that the Presidents budget proposal is a starting point for Congress. Over the next several weeks, I, along with my colleagues, will look closely at the proposed spending increases and cuts to ensure that, in our effort to achieve the goal of deficit reduction, important programs are not unduly underfunded. As the process continues, rest assured, I will continue to oppose significant increases in enrollment fees and prescription drug co-pays because of the strain they place on our veterans.
